About Githumu High School
History of A.I.C Githumu High School
A.I.C Githumu High School, located in Ruchu, Murang’a County, was established in the 1950s by the African Inland Church. Initially founded as a primary school, it quickly became a cornerstone of education within the local community, embodying the vision of providing comprehensive learning experiences based on Christian principles.
By 1963, the school expanded its facilities and curriculum to accommodate secondary education, welcoming its first cohort of 35 boys. Within three years, the school embraced a co-educational model by enrolling 40 girls, marking a significant milestone in its development as an inclusive academic institution.
In subsequent years, Githumu High School reverted to an all-boys model, reflecting a shift in educational strategies and community needs. It continued to grow in both student population and infrastructure, transforming into a modern educational establishment with the capacity to host close to 2,000 boys. This evolution has ensured that the school remains a prominent feature in the local education landscape.
Today, Githumu High School stands as a testament to its enduring legacy and commitment to academic and co-curricular excellence. Its proximity to the Aberdare Ranges adds to the school’s unique character, with the chilly climate becoming a distinctive aspect of the student experience.
